Emergency & Out of Hours

The calls that can't wait until morning. Every one of these is covered by a working overnight rota across N1–N22 and NW1–NW11, not an answerphone that picks up at nine.

Locked Out

Keys inside, door slammed behind you, or a key that turns but won't throw the bolt. Opened without damage in most cases, using picking or a letterbox tool rather than a drill.

Emergency Locksmith

Forced doors, snapped cylinders and burglary repairs. We make the property secure the same night, then repair it properly and itemise the parts for your insurer.

View service

24-Hour Locksmith

A genuine overnight rota covering North London. Night work differs from daytime work — parts availability, noise in a converted terrace, waking a communal block — and we plan for it.

24/7 Locksmith

Round-the-clock cover including Christmas and every bank holiday, with the out-of-hours rate stated on the call before anyone travels.

Emergency 24 Hour Locksmith

Genuine emergencies triaged first: a door that won't secure, keys stolen with an address, or a vulnerable person shut out. If it can safely wait, we'll tell you.

Fast Locksmith

Speed is geography and van stock, not a slogan. Working from Holloway Road puts Islington, Highbury and Barnsbury minutes away rather than an hour down the North Circular.

Keys & Key Systems

Keys fail in three different ways, and each one is a different job. Snapped in the lock, worn until it no longer turns, or gone altogether with your address attached.

Snapped Keys

Half the key in your hand, half in the euro cylinder. Extracted with proper tools — pliers and superglue push the fragment deeper and turn a five-minute job into a drilled-out cylinder.

View service

Broken Keys

Bent, worn or failing keys that no longer turn cleanly. We cut fresh from the lock or the code rather than copying wear, and check whether the fault is the key or the mechanism.

View service

Lost Keys

A lost key with an address or fob attached is a working copy of your front door. Cylinder changes, insurer-compliant hardware, and advice on who else may still hold a spare.

View service

Key-alike Systems

One key for the front door, back door and garage — or one key across an entire block. Popular with landlords and managing agents running several flats in the same building.

Lock Changes, Fitting & Replacement

Planned work rather than panic. Moving in, ending a tenancy, meeting an insurance condition, or replacing a mechanism that has been getting stiffer for months.

Lock Change

Moving into a flat where you don't know how many keys exist, a tenancy ending, or an ex-partner with a spare. We'll say honestly whether a rekey covers it or the barrel has to go.

View service

Lock Replacement

Euro cylinder, uPVC multipoint gearbox or a five-lever mortice case. Measured before fitting, because a cylinder sitting proud of the handle is a known snap-attack point.

View service

Door Lock Fitting

New locks fitted to timber, uPVC, composite and aluminium doors — including mortising a fresh case into a door that has never had a deadlock.

Moving Home

The one job worth booking before you unpack. Previous owners, letting agents, cleaners and builders may all hold keys, and a cylinder change is the only way to cancel every one of them.

Door Specialists

Some doors need a specialist rather than a general locksmith. Multipoint mechanisms, sliding gear and folding tracks all fail in ways a standard cylinder swap will never fix.

uPVC Specialist

Multipoint mechanisms, stripped gearboxes, dropped doors and misaligned keeps. When the key turns but the door won't lock, the cylinder is rarely the problem.

View service

Patio Doors

Sliding patio doors that jam, drop off the track or no longer lock at the hook. Rollers, tracks and patio lock mechanisms repaired or replaced.

View service

Bi-folding Doors

Bi-fold tracks, rollers, shootbolts and alignment. A single misaligned leaf can stop the whole run locking, which is why these need adjusting rather than forcing.

Security Systems & Safes

Beyond the front door. Physical security and access control for homes, shops and communal buildings across North London.

Security Grills

Retractable and fixed grilles for shopfronts, basement flats and ground-floor windows — supplied, fitted, and repaired when a shutter lock fails before opening.

View service

CCTV Installation

Camera systems for homes, shops and communal blocks, positioned to cover entry points properly rather than filling a wall with cameras that watch nothing.

View service

Intercom Systems

Door entry and intercom for communal entrances — handsets, panels, fobs and access control, including the converted terraces that make up much of Islington and Canonbury.

View service

Safe Specialist

Safes opened, serviced, moved and fitted. Lost combinations, failed electronic locks, and installation anchored properly rather than left loose in a cupboard.

Choosing the Right Locksmith

Locksmithing has no mandatory licence in the UK — anyone can buy picks and print a van sticker. These pages set out what we can actually prove before you let someone near your door.

What happens when you call

Four steps, whichever service you need

01

Describe the door, not the fault

Timber or uPVC? One keyhole or two? Does the handle lift? Thirty seconds of this decides which engineer and which parts we send.

02

Get the price on the call

Quoted against what you have described, including any out-of-hours rate, before anyone gets into the van.

03

We open it, then we secure it

Entry first, then the repair or replacement, and the door tested with you before we leave.

04

The invoice names the parts

Make, model and standard of everything fitted — what an insurer, a landlord or the next locksmith will need.

Why North London calls N1 Locksmiths

Answered by a locksmith

The person on the phone has fitted the lock you're describing, so the van leaves with the right parts on board.

Priced before we travel

Quoted against the door you describe, out-of-hours rate included. That figure is the one on the invoice.

Our own engineers

Every job across N1–N22 and NW1–NW11 is worked by our team from Holloway Road, not a subcontractor network.

Insurance-grade hardware

BS3621 mortices, TS007 3-star and Sold Secure Diamond cylinders, named by make and standard on your invoice.

Non-destructive first

Picking and bypass before drilling, so in most cases your existing cylinder is still working when we leave.

15–30 minutes across N & NW

And an honest number rather than an optimistic one if you are further out across London.

Coverage

Where we work

Our core ground is N1 to N22 and NW1 to NW11, worked from Holloway Road. The housing changes as you cross it: Islington and Canonbury are dense with Victorian conversions where communal entrances and original timber doors sit side by side, while Finchley, Golders Green and Barnet bring far more uPVC and composite doors on multipoint mechanisms. We carry stock for both patterns, which is why a diagnosis over the phone usually holds when we arrive.

Locksmith services — frequently asked questions

Which service do I need if I'm locked out right now?

Start with the lockout page, or simply call. The right answer depends on the door: a slipped latch on a communal entrance, a deadlocked timber door and a seized uPVC multipoint gearbox are three different jobs needing three different tools, and thirty seconds on the phone tells us which one you have.

Do you cover all of North London?

Our core coverage is N1 to N22 and NW1 to NW11, worked from 37 Holloway Road in N7. Islington, Angel, Highbury, Canonbury, Barnsbury, Holloway, Camden Town, Kentish Town, Hampstead, Finchley, Golders Green and Barnet are usually inside the 15 to 30 minute window. We travel further across London for planned and commercial work.

How much does a locksmith cost?

We quote per job rather than publishing a price list, because the lock type, whether parts are needed and the hour all move the figure. Describe the door on the phone and you will have the price before we travel, including any out-of-hours rate, so nothing changes on the doorstep.

Will you damage my door to get in?

Rarely. Most lockouts are opened by picking or bypass, which leaves the door and the existing cylinder working exactly as before. Drilling is a last resort used when the mechanism has already failed, and we tell you before we do it rather than afterwards.

My key turns but the door will not lock — is that the lock or the door?

Usually neither the key nor the cylinder. On a uPVC or composite door that pattern normally points to the multipoint gearbox or a door that has dropped on its hinges so the keeps no longer line up. Fitting a new cylinder will not fix it, which is why we diagnose before quoting a part.

Can you fit locks that meet my insurance policy?

Yes. Most UK home policies specify a BS3621 five-lever mortice on a timber door, or a TS007 3-star or Sold Secure Diamond cylinder on uPVC and composite doors. Tell us what your policy asks for and we will fit to that standard and name it on the invoice.

Do you work with landlords and letting agents?

Regularly. Tenancy changeovers, key-alike suites so one key opens a whole block, communal door entry and intercom repairs, and lock changes between lets. We can invoice on account rather than job by job.

Do you install CCTV and intercoms as well as locks?

Yes. Door entry and intercom systems, access control for communal entrances, security grilles for shopfronts and ground-floor windows, and CCTV positioned to cover the actual entry points rather than filling a wall with cameras.

What should I do while I wait for the locksmith?

Do not force the door and do not take the handle off — damage to a uPVC handle can jam the mechanism and turn a simple opening into a full mechanism replacement. Do not let a passer-by try either. Wait somewhere lit and warm within sight of the door.

How do I book?

Call 020 7129 7496 or message on WhatsApp, day or night. Describe the door, get the price, and we will give you a realistic arrival window for your postcode and the time of day.

Not sure which service you need?

Describe the door and what has happened. We will tell you which job it is, what it costs and how long we will be — and if it can safely wait until morning at a lower rate, we will say that too.
